Dudding Lake - Jewel of the Rangitikei

Dudding Lake, often referred to as Duddings Lake, is a recreational facility enjoyed by many of the regions local and visitors. The lake is great for swimming, boating, jet-skiing and water skiing. Fishing is permitted as the lake is stocked with trout and has a good population of perch. The campground is located next to the lake and has powered and non-powered sites for tents, campervans, caravans. There is a 2km walkway around the lake planted with native trees and great views of birdlife at the upper end.

There is also a community hall available for hire for weddings, birthdays, meetings and functions.

Visiting

Everyone is welcome to visit the lake during the day, there is no charge for day visitors, unless you want to use powerboats on the lake. Picnic areas are located around the lake for you to enjoy.

  1. The gates close dusk (access by campers can be made by ringing the bell).
  2. The lake is dog friendly, but dogs must be restrained at busy times and not bother other lake users.
  3. Fishing is permitted.
  4. The camping facilities (kitchen, laundry and shower block) are provided for campers only.
  5. Open fires are not permitted. Some barbeque facilities are provided, you are also welcome to use your own gas barbeques. Barbeque wood is available at the office or in the trees.

Boating

There is a $10 a day fee for boats or jet skis – please bring cash and make payment at the office on arrival. Campers with boats are charged a one-off fee of $10 for the duration of their stay. There are no hire facilities available but your own canoes and sailboats can be used at no charge. There is a small boat ramp available.

Dudding Lake needs to be a safe place for all lake users, please adhere to the following rules:

  1. There must be no more than five power boats on the lake at any one time.
  2. An anti-clockwise circuit must be kept to at all times. 
  3. No boats or jet skis are allowed in the swimming area. 
  4. Life jackets are to be worn at all times while on the lake. 
  5. Lake management is not responsible for damage to craft or crew using the lake.

Camping

Dudding Lake has a small, welcoming campground with both powered and non-powered sites. Powered sites need to be booked. There is no rental accommodation provided.

Fees for camping

  • Non powered, sites per night - $20 for two adults, $10 extra adult and $5 each child (under 14) - under 5 is free
  • Powered sites, per night - $25 for two adults, $10 extra adult and $5 each child (under 14) - under 5 is free

Kitchen facilities provided include seating, washing machines, sinks, hot plates, microwave, electric jug and toasters. Use of the showers is free for campers.

Gates to the lake are closed at dusk; campers returning after this time can ring the buzzer to be let in.

  1. Powered sites must be vacated by 10am on the day of departure, unless otherwise arranged. Campers can stay at the lake as day visitors without additional charge.
  2. The laundry, kitchen and shower facilities must not be used after 10am on the day of departure.
  3. Campers and caravans must display an up-to-date electrical Warrant of Fitness.
  4. Camping is only permitted within the defined areas.
  5. There are EFTPOS facilities on site.

Hall Hire

The hall at Dudding Lake is available to hire – for weddings, birthdays, meetings, training sessions, and other functions. It is equipped with a full modern kitchen – cutlery and crockery are supplied; a lock-up bar area and modern toilet facilities, including wheelchair access and toilet. There is plenty of on-site parking. The hall can legally accommodate 100 people for each function, but depending on your requirements and layout of the hall, 60-80 may be a more comfortable limit.
